Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
We filed a claim when my husband took ill while we were on vacation in South Africa. TripMate, the insurance company behind Global Alert, took a very long time to process our claim after we returned home and filed the claim. Additionally, TripMate told us the medical coverage was secondary to our health insurance when that was not the case; TripMate should have paid the hospital directly, which they did not, so we had to pay out of pocket and then recover the hospital and medical expenses. We have finally received full payment for the claim but that happened only after the folks at InsureMyTrip got involved. The Customer Care department of InsureMyTrip is wonderful and they contacted TripMate on our behalf until the claim was finally paid. If you have a problem with any policy sold by InsureMyTrip, they will stand behind it! To summarize - I do not recommend TripMate or Global Alert insurance based on our experience but I definitely do recommend InsureMyTrip.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We will be forwarding this review to TripMate.
We are pleased to learn that your claim has been paid. Thank you for allowing InsureMyTrip to advocate on your behalf and assist you in getting your claim resolved. We apologize on behalf of the claims administrator for the lengthy claims process and confusion over whether the medical coverage is primary or secondary. In general, the medical expense benefit provided on comprehensive travel insurance plans is in excess of your primary health insurance.

Good coverage. Gave me a sense of well being for unforeseen events in a challenging part of the world. Provided security, even though I did not need to make use of policy.

Never used the plan, so am unable to comment., It was disappointing to learn that my granddaughter and I were not covered for injury due to civilian unnrest/rioting in another country, Your policy states; If within 30 days of Your departure, a politically motivated Terrorist Attack occurs within the territorial limits of a City listed on Your itinerary. The Terrorist Attack must occur after the Effective Date of Your Trip Cancellation coverage.“Terrorist Attack†means an incident deemed an act of terrorism by the U.S. Government.
Otherwise, the policy the policy excludes:
War, invasion, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities between nations (whether declared or not), civil war.

Thank you for providing feedback. Unfortunately, comprehensive travel insurance policies exclude war, acts of war, civil unrest, insurrection and similar events for all types of coverage. Those plans that cover Terrorism are eluding to Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage, not for Medical Coverage.
The John Hancock Silver Travel Plan provided comprehensive coverage at a reasonable cost for our Trip. I was reluctant to buy travel insurance for this trip because it was so expensive. But I was nervous not to buy insurance as well, given the nature and cost of our travel plans. JH Silver plan was perfect for us.

We did not have to file a claim, but made note of the following for future trips. We almost missed an international flight connection due to long lines at passport control. This would have cause a delay, resulting in purchasing of 2 new air tickets, food, and lodging. After returning home, I contacted AXA to see if that would have been a covered event and was told it was not covered. It is something for everyone to be aware of and I will investigate other options for my next trip.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. You raise a terrific point which will be helpful to fellow travelers. Comprehensive travel insurance policies are designed to cover an extensive list of unforeseen events for Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, and Travel Delay. However, not all potential risks are covered. The AXA Assistance USA Silver plan covers the following hazards for Travel Delay:
(a) Any delay of a Common Carrier (including Inclement Weather);
(b) Any delay by a traffic Accident en route to a departure, in which You are or a Traveling Companion is directly or not directly involved;
(c) Any delay due to lost or stolen passports, travel documents or money; quarantine; hijacking; unannounced Strike, Natural Disaster, civil commotion or riot;
(d) A closed roadway causing cessation of travel to the Travel Supplier or destination of the Covered Trip, and substantiated by the department of transportation, state police, or other like authority;
(e) Severe storms that cause a route closing validated by the National Weather Service records and local Department of Transportation records;
(f) Avalanche that delays You from reaching Your destination or Your primary residence when returning home; or
(g) Landslide that delays You from reaching Your destination or Your primary residence when returning home.
The above list is extremely inclusive, but does not include scenarios such as long lines at an airport. In fact, we may not offer a plan which would cover this specific event or other similar events for Trip Interruption or Travel Delay. Please keep in mind, the terms and conditions of each policy will differ. Please refer to policy certificate to learn about how your policy benefits work. If you have questions regarding our travel insurance products or have general coverage questions, please call us at 800-487-4722.
Additionally, the Missed Connection benefit available through the AXA Assistance USA Silver Policy offers coverage when the missed connection is the result of a delay of 3 hours or more caused by a Common Carrier. In this case, the delay at the security checkpoint itself would not constitute a covered peril.
MISSED CONNECTION
We will pay the benefit shown in the Schedule of Benefits if You missed Your Covered Trip departure due to cancellation or delay for 3 or more hours of all regularly scheduled airline flights due to Inclement Weather or any delay caused by a Common Carrier. Benefits of up to the amount shown in the Schedule of Benefits are provided to cover additional Transportation expenses needed for You to join the departed Covered Trip. Coverage is secondary to any compensation provided by a Common Carrier. Coverage will not be provided to You if You are able to meet Your scheduled departure but cancel Your Covered Trip due to Inclement Weather.
We would be pleased to assist you with any additional coverage related questions.
On this safari trip there were ample chances for injury or illness, so we were comforted to have the insurance. This company seems to have the coverage we were seeking.
