I took a solo trp to Ghana for my birthday. I was hesitant about buying insurance, because Ive heard so many horror stories, and truthfully after reading some of the reviews, wondered if I would actually need it. I purchased, just to be safe & that was the best decision ever. While in Ghana I became ill (no fault of anything in Ghana) & had to seek medical attention. This caused me to miss my scheduled flight !
I contacted the insurance company and immediately someone was available to answer all of my questions as well as provide me with whatever options & resources that were available to me at that time. It took maybe 72 hours, however I was able to submit my receipts for the additional hotel cost & most importantly I was able to GET HOME!!
Thank you Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, being stuck 1/2 way across the world could be a frightening experience!

Maybe the worst experience I've ever had with travel insurance. I got the "platinum plan" which covered flight delays, cancellations and a ticket change fee of $250. When my flight home was cancelled and I was going to get stuck in west africa I called AXA for help and was told "oh, there's no monetary value to your policy, you shouldn't even bother filing a claim." I know insurance companies like to find reasons to deny coverage, but they're supposed to at least let me file a claim first. That's fraud. Worst. Company. Ever.

The plan was exactly what I was looking for in terms of both coverage and cost. The coverage was clearly explained so I felt like I understood what I was getting. I only had one question which I thought of immediately after I paid for the plan and I tried to call customer service. My flight left at night on the 12th but I didn't arrive home until the 13th and I used the departure date on my plan as the end date. My question was, would I be I covered if anything happened on the 13th? So in other words should I have extended my coverage date through the 13th even though I was already en route? When I called and followed the prompts, I got to the place where the recording said someone would be with me and then my call was disconnected. It was late and I was tired so I never called back. Thankfully, I didn't have to use the coverage but there was a hint of doubt that troubled me as to the level of service I might expect.
