Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
Since I did not file a claim, it is hard to know the value of such insurance. I have used travel insurance before and in many cases when filing a claim, I rate the insurer based on the ease of filing the claim. In this case, I did not have to do so, and with that said, it makes it difficult to rate this program. Overall, much of these plans are often too costly, but I accepted this plan due to my international travels.

Our cruise was cancelled due to bankruptcy of the travel agent. Insurance did not cover it. We did not go on the cruise and none of our out of pocket expenses were covered. Insurance was worthless. Claim was denied. Never thought this would happen and didn't realize until it did that we were not covered. Would at least have expected to get a refund for not using the insurance. We realize now that travel insurance does not cover a lot of potential situations. Read the fine print.

We are sorry to hear that you had to cancel your trip. Financial default coverage will cover the unforeseen bankruptcy of an airline, cruise line, or tour operator. Sadly, the policies on our site do not include Travel Agents under this coverage. For Cancellation due to this reason, a policy that included Cancel For Any Reason would be needed.
There are typically 3 conditions that must be met to purchase a Cancel For Any Reason Rider: Purchase the policy within 10 - 21 days of First Trip Payment; Insure ALL prepaid and non-refundable travel expenses prior to departure; Trip arrangements must be canceled more than 48 -72 hours prior to the departure date. If you meet all 3 of these conditions, this benefit will typically reimburse you 75% of your trip cost, unless otherwise noted.

The cruise line offered an insurance plan with the broadest coverage available, however, the additional cost was not justified to me. This is the first time in almost 10+ cruises I ever purchased insurance and was very satisfied with the piece of mind it provided.
