Was missing a suitcase on the pier when I returned from my cruise. Looked over my policy when I got home and realized there was a very LOW dollar amount for a claim for luggage!!! Will definitely pay more attention to this in future. FORTUNATELY my suitcase was accidentally picked up by a porter and sent on a tour bus to another town in Florida - and with great relief a very honest tour operator called the cruise line to report an extra bag in their customers' load and I was reunited via a FedEx delivery in a short 3 days with my luggage!!! I may not be this lucky the next time so it's a lesson learned.

I’ve never purchased travel insurance but with the expense of this trip I thought it was better to be safe than sorry. Thankfully I didn’t need to use the insurance but it was a very reasonable price for what it covered

We purchased insurance for a catamaran trip in the BVI. As we started our trip there was a minor risk of a hurricane forming but it was supposed to take days before posing any threat if at all... 3 days of 7 in the operator said we had to beach the ship and we should leave the BVI because a hurricane was going to make landfall there in 4 days on our original day of departure.
We had to buy last minute tickets to get the 6 of us home. We had 2 hr direct flight on spirit and 22 hrs return flight to St Martin, Panama then to Miami and an 2 hour uber ride home. Hurricane Irma ravaged the BVI, and then followed us home to Florida.
When i went to file a claim i was denied because 1) we chose to leave BEFORE the hurricane hit (even though the island ordered an evac and the operator ordered us off) 2) Before our airline cancelled our return flight (the morning the hurricane hit spirit cancelled the flight) 3) there was only a potential threat to our home; ie if we rode it out there we couldn't make it back to shutter up our house...
So I asked in writing what should i have done and the response was that we should have waited out the storm in the BVI and they would have reimbursed us for return flights... whenever we could have gotten them. I asked should i have cancelled the trip since a tropical storm was being watched (though it wasn't a hurricane) and the answer was we wouldn't reimburse you for that since you chose to cancel before an act of nature.
So in short if a hurricane is coming your on your own unless you ride it out at your destination, then you may stand a chance of some sort of reimbursement No reimbursement for the lost flight, transfers or the emergency flights out. But have fun with no food, water or power for how ever many days before airlines resume flights.
The only positive was the catamaran provider took complete care of the crews, got them home to saftey, and without question gave us a credit for the days we missed.

We filed a claim back in September due to the hurricane. We purchased 'cancel for any reason', we are still waiting for our money. A insure my claim advocate recently became involved which seems to started the process 'again'. I don't understand why we have to always provide documentation for a cancel for any reason purchased policy.
4 1/2 months later we FINALLY received our deposit back. We will NEVER EVER go with April Travel Protection.
We are extremely disappointed with their service.

Yes everything went great on our trip to Virgin Gorda. The claim was easy to file and even the confusion didn't confuse you. The confusion was in the house. We weren't going to get the money back, then we were going to get the money back. Then we weren't going to get the money back but eventually we did get the money back for the house. And so there was no claim filed for the money on the house, where initially there was. And the plane reservation refund was excellent, cuz it took into account the weird way Delta handles cancellations like that. Which is that they don't and they don't give you your money back. Unless you plan on booking with them again within 12 months of the initial reservation. Which is somewhat difficult to do, since we generally fly domestically and you won't take Delta if you are a golfer and fly domestically.

It felt good to the ability to be reimburse for any medical issues (seeing a doctor or being evacuated). The cost of the car rental could explained better (Liability). There was a major storm that hit the island before that did make some area not accessible. We would have like to have know that since this did effect our trip. It would have been nice to have been told, and maybe make and informed decision on where we wanted to go to not?
