We were able to make a call with ease from India to customer service to confirm coverage and assurance that we were covered. The peace of mind allowed us to continue our travels without worrying. Arch RoamRight Essential
We have used Insure My Trip for many, many years and have chosen a variety of Insurance companies over the years. For this January's trip to the Indian Himalayas, we insured with RoamRight.
At an altitude of 13000 feet, one of us got dehydrated, became quite ill and needed to get to lower altitude and to hospital care. This involved changing our flight back to Delhi and, after care in a suburban hospital, flying home to our U.S. hospital. United Airlines refunded our change fee quicklyand easily. RoamRight's website guided me through entering:
* the required information to prove that we did need to evacuate
* the costs involved in changing the domestic (Indian) tickets and
*the value of the tour that we missed by leaving about half way through the tour.

About two or three weeks after they received this information, they reviewed it and without any "fuss and bother", they issued checks that fully covered our loss.
The incident was terrifying, but the interaction with RoamRight was straightforward and totally satisfying.

International Medical Group iTravelInsured SE
If you have an elderly parent in bad shape, you should purchase a plan with a "cancel for any reason" clause. My mother went into hospice care the day before I left for India. I talked to the International Medical Group iTravelInsured twice and was told I couldn't cancel because of that. She would have to die before I could cancel and be reimbursed for the trip. She died the day after I arrived in India.
If the average hospice stay is weeks, I can understand the policy of not allowing people to cancel for this reason, but I wish I had known that before I bought insurance.

We had to cancel because his doctors did not want him to fly. The claim was easy to fill out and the customer service representatives were polite and helpful. We had our refunds within a month.

Fortunately, I did not have to file a claim with Global Alert!, however, I called Global Alert because one of my connecting flights (a short one to NY) was cancelled at the last minute. Instead of helping me get another flight, the person who answered said he didn't know how to do that and offered to send me a claim form instead. I told him that I wanted to get a flight, not a claim form and would get back if I needed a claim form. I managed to use other resources to fix the issue, but was disappointed that the insurance company had no one to help me.

I have travelled extensively and have always bought travel insurance but this is the first time I have filed a claim. My flight to India was canceled and delayed for 24 hours. Since I had a non refundable hotel and scheduled pre paid tours for my original arrival date, I called the airline and requested that I be booked on a flight a day earlier instead of a day later. I filed a claim for the extra nights hotel and my claim was denied. If I would have stayed with the later flight, the claim would have been for more since they would have had to reimburse me not only for hotel but for the pre paid tour as well. That is why I carry insurance for when the unexpected happens. This was a situation beyond my control and I tried to make the best decision but Travel Safe was not willing to work with me.

    Although it is never pleasant to hear that your claim was denied, this was a fair denial of coverage according to your policy terms.

    (1) According to page 1 of your TravelSafe certificate, "Travel Delay: Coverage begins after You have traveled 50 miles or more from home en route to join Your Trip. This is Your “Effective Date” and time for Travel Delay." Since you changed your departure date back on 09/13/2017, which was before your original departure date of 09/22/2017 and before you traveled 50 miles or more from home, you would not have a valid Travel Delay claim under this policy.

    (2) You also indicated in a previous email that "No charge fees or penalties have been incurred. There are no claims or pending claims at this time." Voluntarily changing your departure date prior to departure and incurring the expense of an additional night in a hotel would not qualify under this policy as reasonable expenses for additional accommodations according to page 5 of the certificate:

    "TRAVEL DELAY
    Benefits will be paid up to 0 per day for reasonable accommodation, meal, and local transportation expenses incurred by You, up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Confirmation of Benefits, if You are delayed for 6 hours or more while en route to or from, or during Your Trip..."
