Myanmar has poor hospital facilities, especially in the rural areas - the bulk of the country. Anyone going should definitely get the medical evacuation coverage, to cover the costs of getting to Thailand, Singapore, or home. There was someone on the boat that developed kidney stones with blockage. He had to be transported 7 hours to a suitable hospital. I hope he had appropriate travel insurance.

We thought it important to buy trip insurance as the hospitals in Burma are not up to our standards and if something happened to us, we wanted to be taken to a country that has good medical care, perhaps Thailand. We are very glad that we had not accidents or sickness and did not need any help. We thought the coverage was more expensive than for other countries we had visited.

I had to cancel due to my father contracting a severe illness. The staff was courteous and helpful. They required much paperwork -- confirmations of cancellations, etc. (as all insurance carriers do.) However, they patiently helped me through the process to get everything I needed and everything was covered.

Advantage Bridge
