I chose the AXA Assistance USA Gold plan because it best fit my travel needs for the premium charged. Unfortunately, the trip to Nepal was cancelled due to the terrible earthquake there. My trip deposit was refunded from the tour operator, but I did not notify AXA Assistance USA because I understood that no refund is available for trip insurance premiums.

Thank you for replying with your comments on this policy. You are correct that there is generally no premium refund if you request to cancel your plan outside the policy review period. Since you purchased this plan back on 04/15/2015, your AXA plan provided you with Trip Cancellation for various reasons up until your trip was cancelled by the travel provider in March 2016, so it would be unlikely that AXA would agree to refund your premium.Apr 07,2016-

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. The John Hancock Silver plan offers an optional Trip Cancellation For Any Reason benefit which can be added onto the policy for an additional premium if selected within 14 days after making the initial trip payment. Unfortunately, the benefit was not selected at the time of purchase, and was not requested until more than 14 days following the initial trip payment.
Cancel For Any Reason reimburses between 50% - 75% of the pre-paid and nonrefundable trip cost insured if:
1) the policy is purchased with the benefit included within 10-30 days after making the initial trip payment (time frame depends upon specific policy)
2) the full cost of all non-refundable prepaid travel arrangements in insured on the policy
3) the trip is cancelled at-least 2 days prior to the Scheduled Departure Date.

Many thanks. I am glad that I had coverage. All who climb in the Himalayas should have coverage. If you have coverage the Himalayan Rescue will transport you, if not, you may be lucky to get a horse and guide to get you out. While in the Himalayas, I saw many helicopters and met a good deal of people who were very ill. Best wishes to the MH Ross Team.

In regards to emergency medical evacuation, the following is taken from the policy: A legally licensed Physician, in coordination with the Assistance Company, must order the Emergency Evacuation and must certify that the severity of Your Injury or Emergency Sickness warrants Your Emergency Evacuation to the closest adequate medical facility. It must be determined that such Emergency Evacuation is required due to the inadequacy of local facilities.
The certification and approval for Emergency Evacuation must be coordinated through the most direct and economical conveyance and route possible, such as air or land ambulance, or commercial airline carrier.Dec 01,2014
