The value of any travel protection plan can only be accurately rated based upon claims experience. I chose this plan based on what I thought was good value and benefits. Nonetheless, that becomes meaningless if there should be a poor claims experience. Thus this plan seems good only so far as the benefits offered. I can't comment on their handling of a claim.

Unfortunately, I had to cancel a trip to Morocco due to health issues (nothing life shattering, fortunately, and I was able to rebook several months later). My trip costs were fully reimbursed. This only complaint I had was that I had to call and "shake the bushes" several times to move the claim along. It took perhaps three months. That said, they paid the claim and I was satisfied. Just be prepared for a fairly long wait. I would purchase from this company again, with the understanding that payment is SLOW.

Finally, the review you've been waiting for! Someone who actually filed a claim. My luggage was lost en route to Casablanca. It was missing for 36 hours, but during that time I was told by my tour leader to prepare for it to be missing for a much longer period. That meant shopping for cold weather / rain gear, slacks, shirts, sweaters, pjs, underwear, sundries. Fortunately, I had purchased a plan that included delayed luggage up to $600. Alas, my expenses were indeed covered -- with the exception of the taxi rides to and from the shopping center (to shop) and airport (to collect my suitcase when it finally arrived -- unlike the US, they do not deliver delayed luggage), which totaled $100.

I filed a claim upon return and it was quickly settled, within weeks. I was very pleased and would not hesitate to purchase this product again.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
The thing is, you don’t really know how good the company is or how responsive they are to your needs until you need to file a claim. I did not need to do this , so it is hard to evaluate.

Had a minor medical urgent care incident but the hassle of getting all the required documentation from the Moroccan clinic to be used in filing a claim wasn't feasible - and the total cost of the service was about $45. I thought about filing anyway just to see how it would get handled, but figured it would be a waste of my time and the company's time - there are more effective things for both of us to do!

I had some physical probems before and during this trip and, while I never actually had to file a claim, having this insurance was reassuring. Price and value was the best of those I researched.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
The initial response of the company processing the claim for Nationwide was prompt; however, their response time moved into the unacceptable range over time. It felt as if they were "slow walking" our claim with requests for information that had previously been provided to them. There was even a conversation with a person where they said, "Oh, I guess we missed that."
In the end, it felt like they were delaying the processing of our claim because they could. We did finally receive our money which is why our rating wasn't lower.

I chose this plan based on coverage and cost. I did not file a claim. I can't see the point of reviewing an insurance plan except in terms of how they handled a claim.
