Since I did not need to make a claim, I have no way of evaluating the above. I felt protected and was assured that this was a good plan. I appreciated notice "bon voyage" and "welcome home" as I knew I was covered.

AIG Travel Travel Guard Basic
My baggage was delayed, and I called Travel Guard. They were able to track my bag in better time than the airline, and gave me updated information on where it was and when it would be delivered to me. Really gave me peace of mind!

Thankfully we didn't have to use the AXA Assistance USA Silver plan, so it's difficult to rate, when it wasn't used.

We bought the insurance for peace of mind in case the worst occurred. A fellow traveler tripped and broke his wrist. Israel's healthcare took care of him efficiently, but there were difficult questions about payment before leaving the country. Would having insurance help them in this case? Anyway, we bought insurance with the hope we never need it and we never did need it. InsureMyTrip served that purpose.

Thank you for your question. If you should ever find yourself in need of medical assistance during your trip, you should call the 24 Hour Emergency Assistance Center for help. Foreign medical facilities can sometimes require payment (guarantee of payment) to admit, treat, or release a patient. Most travel insurance companies employ assistance companies that can advance medical payment to a hospital if necessary. Some travel insurance companies write in their policies that they have the capability of advancing medical payment or making a guarantee of payment to secure an insured's admission to a hospital.

Yes, with hesitation. After medical emergency, we had to go home. There were very responsive and continually checked on us. They did buy us tickets home, although the process was difficult because their first few proposals had terribly long travel and transfer plans and no way to put feet up, as doctor ordered. Finally, they came up with good connections and business class. They did reimburse medical expenses that our own policy did not and reimbursed lost deposits. The Doctor ordered rest before return, and they refused to cover hotel/food costs and taxi to airport for this, saying these things weren't medical expenses and also weren't covered expenses under the trip interruption part of the policy. This amounted to about $400-$500 that they refused to reimburse even though the expenses were caused by my husband's illness. The process of reimbursement took 4-1/2 months even though I promptly provided all of their documentation.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are pleased to learn that Travel Guard provided prompt and diligent travel assistance.

An InsureMyTrip Customer Advocate was assigned to seek reimbursement for the hotels, meals, and local transportation expenses as a result of the injury. Unfortunately, none of the benefits provided in the Travel Guard Silver plan would cover those expenses for the event that occurred.

I filed a claim which took 5 months to get paid. I have accepted that the terrorism clause in the plan was worded poorly, and forced me to invoke the "Cancel for Any Reason" benefit of the plan, which only pays 75% of cancellation fees. The terrorism clause was worded such that the U.S. Government has to officially call the event an act terrorism. In Israel, there are things that occur that don't get officially designated by the U.S. State Department as terrorism. The cancellation for terrorism part of the plan was cleverly worded to leave a gap where some terrorist acts are not covered if they don't make the State Department radar. Now for the claim, although I sent in all the proper documentation, they were looking for a specific form of documentation from the airline on the cancellation fee, which was difficult to obtain. Eventually, I did get this resolved, and they did pay the claim.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We appreciate your business, and are pleased to learn that your claim was paid. We apologize on behalf of the claims administrator that your claim took five months to resolve.

The wording of Trip Cancellation for a Terrorist Attack can be confusing, but the coverage is worded similarly in the majority of plan certificates. In the future, please feel free to call us for clarification. Unfortunately, none of the comprehensive policies on our website cover trip cancellation for the previously referenced events.
We advise customers concerned about war (declared or undeclared), political or civil unrest to purchase the "Cancel For Any Reason" benefit. There are usually three conditions that must be met to purchase a "Cancel For Any Reason" policy: The policy needs to be purchased within 10-30 days after making the initial trip payment/deposit, the entire pre-paid and non-refundable trip cost needs to be insured, and the covered trip must be canceled more than 2 days prior to the departure date. The majority of "Cancel For Any Reason" policies will reimburse 75% of the trip cost, unless otherwise noted.

We encourage customers to call InsureMyTrip prior to purchasing travel insurance to ask questions about coverage and receive recommendations based their needs. InsureMyTrip is open 7 days a week at 800-487-4722.
