Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
My parents are in their 90’s. It was very comforting knowing if something happen prior or during my trip I could be home without loosing the money invested in my trip.

I bought flight delay insurance, because when I purchased my ticket, our President had shut down the government, reopened it, and was threatening to shut it down again - this would have possibly, again, shut down the Air Controllers, TSA, and, thus, air flights. So, I wound up buying this. Didn't need it. But was happier having it. Found the service in 2016, when I insured a very expensive trip, and was reimbursed in full when my husband was diagnosed with ALS. It's worth the cost. Good company. Good service. Dependable. Lots of options.

Please keep in mind that in order to be reimbursed under Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption or Travel Delay under a comprehensive plan, it must be due to a covered reason or meet the definition of hazard as listed in your policy. None of the policies listed on our website including your Generali plan would reimburse you if your trip canceled, interrupted or delayed your trip due to a threatened governmental shutdown. Coverage would have only been available with Generali's Premium plan under the optional Cancel for Any Reason rider.
"TRIP CANCELLATION FOR ANY REASON BENEFIT
If you purchased this optional coverage, we will reimburse you for a percentage of the prepaid, forfeited, nonrefundable Payments for your Trip, if you and all other Insured traveling with you cancel the Trip for any reason, provided:

The claim was for travel delay due to a cancelled flight on the return trip home. The flight was re-booked for the next day, so had to stay at a hotel and purchase 2 meals (dinner and next day lunch). I never communicated directly with anyone at TripAssure about my claim. When submitting the claim through their website, I selected the option to handle communication electronically (instead of snail mail), filled out the claim form, and attached copies of documentation about cancelled flight and receipts for hotel, meals and parking one extra day. Promptly received a confirmation email that documentation was received. After waiting one month, received another email to reimburse all expenses except the parking (not covered, although "local transportation" would be covered). The reimbursement came in the form of an e-check, linked to the email, to print on my own printer and deposit at my bank.
When the flight was cancelled, a call to "One Call" travel assistance from the airport turned out to be useless to ask if insurance would cover the expenses for travel delay. They did not know anything about the policy and started reading it over the phone. I did not ask "One Call" for any other assistance, so don't know if they would be helpful otherwise.

Having insurance coverage for emergency contact help, medical, trip cancelation, and emergency evacuation while in other countries is extremely important. Many countries will not wait for your normal medical insurance to provide coverage. Also, Medicare (without supplemental insurance) usually doesn’t cover health care while you’re traveling outside the United States. My wife and I did not have to use the insurance but knowing it's there was very comforting.
