My trip went smoothly and I did not need to make a claim against the insurance. I was glad I called to get information from an agent because I had overlooked the Academic Explorer policy and it was less expensive than some of the other insurance that I was considering. The agent pointed out that since the insured was a student my medical insurance was the primary coverage and the travel insurance was a secondary that would cover the difference between my insurance and the acutal expenses had there been any.

This is the first time we have ever purchased trip cancellation insurance, and we're so glad we did. We had to cancel our entire trip two days before departure because of an unexpected medical issue. Customer service was very helpful. We appreciated being able to submit the claim forms as a PDF by email. We received a check for full reimbursement about 15 business days after claim submission, with no hassle. Fully satisfied.

My experience is the opposite.
I bought "Cancel for Any Reason" which should be a no brainer for them! Nada-nothing-just stalling and delays.22 days out.
You will be very pleased to hear that the John Hancock claims department issued and mailed your check on April 14, 2017, so you should soon be receiving payment. Most insurance companies request that claimants allow up to 30 days after they receive your paperwork to review and process a claim. John Hancock claims department makes every effort to streamline their claims processing which enabled them to settle your check within only 22 days.

Although it is true that your plan was certainly not one of the least expensive plans offered to you, the CSA Travel Protection Custom Luxe was one of only two plans that offered coverage for Pre-existing Medical Conditions. Most Comprehensive plans would have provided the Pre-existing Condition Waiver only if you purchased the plan within 10 to 30 days of your Initial Trip Payment. Unfortunately you were more than one month after that first payment when you called. Keep in mind too that you also purchased a plan that was rich in benefit limits since it included $250,000 in Medical (secondary) and $1,000,000 in Emergency Medical Evacuation coverage per person.
Our recommendation is to call us at 800-487-4722 within 10 days of your first payment for the most competitive pricing.
Fortunately my trip to the Galapagos went smoothly without accident or delay or loss. Having insurance gave us a stress free vacation on top of traveling with an excellent travel company in the Galapagos. Thank you for your service.

I seldom have needed to insure a trip, but with this trip costing in excess of $15K I felt it prudent. That being said, I really have no experience of what such protection should cost. It added another significant cost to an already expensive trip. Was it a fair price? I do not really have the experience to truly state yea or nay. In comparison with other such travel protection plans I got more for my money than it appeared I could get elsewhere. I did not have any incidents that made the coverage necessary, but I was glad to have it.
