This was a horror from beginning to end. Almost as they were taking me off the stretcher for pneumonia in Bali, they called and asked if I was cancelling my trip. I said "NO"! They harassed me and my husband almost daily by email and phone and continued not to understand the meaning of the word no until I finally contacted a supervisor.. I had called before I went to the hospital and submitted a claim as soon as I got home, around March 18th. They asked for additional information which was not needed; sent a card on May 3 saying they had received my info which was sent in March; and finally paid on May 10th--two months after a legitimate claim. Also, they didn't pay for items like the taxi home from the hospital (an hour away). Any questions or responses involved an unacceptable hold time. A terrible experience all around! Would never insure with them again.

I was looking for a "Cancel for Any Reason" policy. I had purchased a policy like this for another trip that I took 4 years ago and it offered a 100% cancellation payment should I need to use it. I could not find 100% when searching for a policy for this trip. The AXA Assistance USA Gold offered 75% payment. It was the best value for the price.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. Comprehensive travel insurance policies provide trip cancellation coverage which reimburses up to 100% of the covered trip cost, if the trip is cancelled due to a covered, unforeseen event. Cancel For Any Reason is an optional benefit for travelers who are cornered about potentially cancelling their trip for a reason that is not covered by trip cancellation.
Several years ago, InsureMyTrip offered a couple of Cancel For Any Reason polices that reimbursed up to 80-90% of the trip cost. Now, the maximum limit for Cancel For Any Reason is 70-75% of the trip cost.May 05,2015

First time we got Travel Insurance; but it was a big trip with the major cost non-refundable. The trip went fine except due to a travel interruption we lost one night (non-refundable) of lodging. Filed a claim which was very easy to do. Within a week or so after they received our claim forms, they cut us a check for that nights lodging. Can't argue with that. Highly recommend AXA Assistance USA!!!!

I purchased the Travelex Travel Max plan after putting down a deposit for an expensive trip, because it offered coverage for cancellation for work reasons, and there was a risk of that happening. The work change did not happen, but the premium paid for it was worth the peace of mind. Our trip went well, and we didn't have to make any claims, so I cannot rate the claims service.
