I have only actually used my trip insurance one time but it was simple and easy. I purchase travel insurance for the disasters that can happen -- missed planes, misses cruises, slips and falls/broken bones, lost luggage, etc. It makes me feel good to know I am covered for almost anything.

My wife and I have traveled frequently since getting together 24 years ago. We have taken many cruises, done several European tours and have never taken travel protection coverage. This year, we booked travel to Greece and Italy. The trip included several segments and was a bit of a hodgepodge including several days in Venice, a 7 day cruise in Greece, several days in Athens and several days on the island of Kithera in Greece. We booked using points for hotels and some flights. Paid cash for the rest. At the last minute, I chose to take travel protection. We are now in our fifties. With several different segments making up our journey that was booked with several carriers, I felt the need to take some added coverage just in case we got into any trouble.

Our trip was wonderful. Three terrific weeks. All except our last day in Athens. Someone broke into the trunk of our rental car and got our electronics (iPads, camera equipment etc). We were heartbroken, as we have never had any hardship in any one of the 50+ trips we have taken. We had taken coverage with CSA. I phoned CSA while we were still in Athens (we were scheduled to come home the next day). The person I spoke to was empathetic and immediately sent me claim information by e-mail. We made a police report before returning home. It took us about a week to collect the documentation. About 10 days after our return, I submitted the claim and all documentation. One week later, I received an e-mail informing me that the claim had been processed and I should expect a check in the next week.

I am just tickled. In this day and age, when one so frequently hears about customer service horror stories, I expected to have to jump through hoops to close out this claim. But instead, the process was as painless as I could have possibly imagined. The claim was not huge - $2800. But, the piece of mind that we received , the painless process to sign up for the coverage, and the professional way that the claim was handled, virtually guarantees that we will be long time CSA customers. Great job!

The CSA Travel Protection Custom Luxe plan covered the situations that we wanted covered. We have never had to file a claim so we can't speak on that. One thing I would like to see changed is that you currently can only receive 70% back when using Cancel For Any Reason. I have used CSA four times.

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. Cancel for Any Reason has a few eligibility criteria:
    1) It is only available within 10-30 days of your initial trip payment (depending on the policy).
    2) You must insure 100% of your pre-paid and non-refundable trip cost.
    3) Cancellation of your travel arrangements and notification of the insurance company must occur more than 2 days before your scheduled departure date.
    4) Cancel for any reason returns between 50%-80% depending on the policy.

    Included in every comprehensive policy, Trip Cancellation covers you for specific unforeseen covered reasons that cause you to cancel your trip. With Trip Cancellation, you are covered to cancel up until departure. Should you cancel, you will be reimbursed 100% of the prepaid and non-refundable trip cost for which you are insured and can provide documentation.

I bought the policy for my daughter, who was traveling around Europe for several weeks. While she didn't need to file a claim, the policy provided both of us peace of mind that if something should happen she would be able to get assistance.

The main purpose of having the travel insurance was the field of security since many of the side trips were in our own planning. I will have insurance in my future trips.

I always buy for foreign travel as I have no health coverage out of the country, but have never made a claim. Also the car rental company was very emphatic that they would not accept this coverage for the rental in any way.

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. Unfortunately, not all rental car companies accept third party collision damage waiver. If rental car coverage is a primary concern for travelers, we advise them to contact the rental company first to see if they accept third party insurance.

This evaluation really doesn't reflect much. Thankfully we never needed to use the plan so it's a bit difficult to evaluate it. I would purchase it again when I travel again.
