This was a horror from beginning to end. Almost as they were taking me off the stretcher for pneumonia in Bali, they called and asked if I was cancelling my trip. I said "NO"! They harassed me and my husband almost daily by email and phone and continued not to understand the meaning of the word no until I finally contacted a supervisor.. I had called before I went to the hospital and submitted a claim as soon as I got home, around March 18th. They asked for additional information which was not needed; sent a card on May 3 saying they had received my info which was sent in March; and finally paid on May 10th--two months after a legitimate claim. Also, they didn't pay for items like the taxi home from the hospital (an hour away). Any questions or responses involved an unacceptable hold time. A terrible experience all around! Would never insure with them again.

This was the worst ever. When you pay for insurance and you can not go on a trip particularly due to medical reasons that were quite catastrophic, the last thing you need is to have to call for MONTHS to get it settled. All documentation was provided, all doctors and hospital notes and all T's crossed and I's dotted. you will eventually get your money but you will have to make at least 2 or 3 dozen calls with just being told, I don't know what is going on, it has been approved...we agree with you....dont know why you don't have the check. It was escalated several times, this was a horror, I will NEVER use them again. You have to BEG for your money!

Glad I didn't have to use it. But isn't that is what insurance is for? Peace of mind that if something does happen you wil have help. On my river cruise one passenger did have a stroke. Had to under go surgery in a foreign country. This made me aware that if it was my wife or me, we would be covered. I can also say that InsureMyTrip.com was a great site to shop for travel insurance. Helped me make my decision based on my need. They were great with follow up and have a great band to load on your smartphone just in case you need help or need to talk with someone. Highly recommend this company. Easy to work with.

We never travel anymore without buying a plan. In all the years of traveling, we only had to use the insurance once and it was worth it. I wouldn't leave home without an insurance plan. I tell ALL my friends that but some people are very short sighted.

Thankfully I did not have to claim. But after hours of research my impression was that Global Alert offers reliable coverage. Compared to other plans with similar coverage, I found their pricing competitive based on trip cancellation coverage for inclement weather (I was traveling in snow season) and also medical coverage/repatriation in/from another country. Also, my impression based on reading many consumer reviews was that you should expect a slow process (ie. months) if you have to make any claims other than cancellation of your entire trip. I would also recommend for your own peace of mind to purchase through InsureMyTrip to have an advocate to help and expediate the claims process in the event you do need to make a claim, especially with Global Alert. I hope this helps.
