The Global Alert Preferred plan offers comprehensive Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage if you have to cancel or interrupt your trip due an unforeseen covered event.
It was impossible to print the info. Representative said that the printed material
would be mailed to me. Very nice, but it did
not arrive before my departure. I do have it now and will file it for future reference.

We were re-routed on our way home due to port closure in Tampa due to the impending hurricane. Everyone on the ship was crazed, however, I knew I had insurance and had peace of mind if things didn't work out. Worth the price I paid!

I did not have to rely on my plan, but it was a close call when my husband became temporarily unable to walk (but resolved prior to the trip). A story from our local newspaper reported that a travel insurer denied a claim because the insured did not buy coverage for the entire amount expended on his trip. This raises an issue, because there is pressure to buy the insurance within a certain time period after making the first payment for the trip. At that point, not all the expenses are known. I estimated our total trip cost for the purpose of buying insurance, but this might not have been sufficient had we needed to make a claim. We did not know the total amount until close to the time of the trip, as we visited a number of places over a month, and were still making hotel reservations just prior to departure. It's an issue I will clarify before I purchase another policy.

We ended up not needing to use the insurance. Our experience was excellent. Using the online chat, a representative took his time explaining the different definitions and triggering events of different policies. Helped me feel confident I was getting the one that covered the events I was concerned about. Will use them again on my next trip.

If you don't have a need to file a claim, this insurance policy is probably fine. If you're unlucky enough to have to file a claim, as we were, be prepared for an expensive and lengthy battle (7 months, in our case), and likely the involvement of an attorney, to get the insurance carrier to pay the policy benefits for which you've paid a very expensive premium. My recommendation: stay away from this insurance carrier at all costs!

Debra, you are correct that the benefits were eventually paid. However, it took 7 months and about $2,000 in attorney's fees to get the insurer to read its own policy and pay accordingly. I believe that my review of this company is fair and accurate.
I spent a lot of time reviewing available travel insurance companies and plan before choosing global alert. Global alert had the plan with the best fit for me at competitive pricing. One recommendation I would make is to provide clearer information on what to do if you are in a foreign country and need to contact an agent - the underwriting isn't organized very well in the plan. It would also be helpful to describe in detail what responsibilities the traveler has if on a cruise - I found out later that the cruise medical staff actually has the right to make decisions about your care in an emergency, so I may not have been able to follow the procedures in the plan anyway. I would also have liked to have some email communication with travel health tips. Overall, I thankfully did not have to use the plan and was satisfied with the terms and knowing I would have coverage if I needed it.

It was very nice to have the piece of mind having the insurance in the event it was needed. We were glad not to have needed to use it. My Son was with a group of boy scouts and they all purchased the insurance for piece of mind. Thanks to the wonderful staff that helped me with all of the policies we needed.
