I chose the AXA Assistance USA Gold plan because it best fit my travel needs for the premium charged. Unfortunately, the trip to Nepal was cancelled due to the terrible earthquake there. My trip deposit was refunded from the tour operator, but I did not notify AXA Assistance USA because I understood that no refund is available for trip insurance premiums.

Thank you for replying with your comments on this policy. You are correct that there is generally no premium refund if you request to cancel your plan outside the policy review period. Since you purchased this plan back on 04/15/2015, your AXA plan provided you with Trip Cancellation for various reasons up until your trip was cancelled by the travel provider in March 2016, so it would be unlikely that AXA would agree to refund your premium.Apr 07,2016-

We have purchased many travel policies. I often questioned whether it was a smart decision given I could never find any claims history on the policies and we had no claim experience.. We filed a claim when one of our travel companions was seriously injured (precluding travel for 3-4 months) approx 2 months prior to our trip departure. As a result of that injury, we cancelled our trip. As our travel companions were not relatives it was critical that we were able to document that our injured friend was a "travel companion" as that is a term specifically defined in the policy. Once our claim was filed, our insurer was professional & courteous in all regards and fully paid our claim approximately 4 weeks after our claim was submitted. Based on our experience, AXA is a first class, professional operation in all regards. We will never travel again without an insurance policy from AXA.

Claim was handled fairly and completely, after some initial delays relating to additional medical info requests. If I had been told of everything needed at outset I would give 5 stars. Customer service was friendly and helpful and once all info they needed was sent payment was full and prompt.

Since I didn't have to use the trip insurance, I have no basis on which to discuss the quality of the plan. Given what I think I know, the coverage and cost was fair. That may have changed drastically if I would have had to file a claim.
