In addition to trip cancellation and delay, the Preferred plan offers coverage for one child per paid adult, accidental death and dismemberment coverage, trip interruption, medical and evacuation coverage, and 24/7 assistance.

I purchased the RoamRight Preferred plan for traveling in Cuba. I had an unplanned large medical expense that I had to cover with cash because U.S. Credit cards are not accepted in Cuba. It took over a week of emails and phone calls to file a claim and get the expense covered. Given the logistics in Cuba, this was probably reasonable. I would just caution anyone purchasing a plan for Cuba that RoamRight did not seem very experienced in delivering services in Cuba despite selling a policy marketed for travel there. RoamRight did come through in the end with a satisfactory response to my claim, so I give them good marks for their commitment to their customer.

We had booked a Celebration trip to Hawaii for our extended family of 10 to take place earlier this year but had to cancel due to my husband's developing medical issue which necessitated surgery and a lengthy recovery. Because we had purchased the RoamRight Preferred plan, via InsureMyTrip.com, we were reimbursed for all of our non-refundable expenses including airfare and lodging deposits. RoamRight settled that claim efficiently and in a timely manner. When we re-booked the same trip for a later date, we again purchased insurance from RoamRight. Fortunately, we enjoyed a wonderful trip with no need to file a claim this time. Based on our good experience, we would purchase trip insurance from RoamRight for our future travels.

Best part about my plan, I was covered in case I was called to work prior to departure. Never used the plan. However, still a peace of mind knowing I was entitled to a refund on non-refundable expenses.

The underwriting and issuance process was well done. Communication (via email) was prompt and clear. We had a complex family trip with eight people living three in states departing from two airports, plus an international shared vacation home with multiple arrival and departure times. While it proved difficult to buy the coverage online because of the complexity, the customer service representative was terrific and provided the right coverage at a competitive cost.
